Hunting Report 17/02/09

Went to Alamanda Putrajaya today.
Here is my report

C4 Alamanda - its a hw and mb ghostown. Single cards hw total about half a dozen only. Not worth your time. Could be caused by a dispute concerning payment between C4 and Mattel that was mentioned by someone before.

Parkson Alamanda - DK wave on the racks but very few cars left, Probabaly 40% left on the racks, No fastback or DK in sight. This parkson don't sell mb.

Cold Storage Alamanda - DK wave sighted, Restocked 2 boxes, at first, no orange beetle, no vw fastback were sighted, but after looking intently at the racks, managed to notice a hidden stash of vw fastbacks and beetle behind other toys just beside the racks. So grabbed 2 fastbacks and left the beetles. But the 2 DKs are no where in sight. Oh well, I always knew this Cold storage was a bit suspect....hmmmph. This Cold Storage don't sell mb.

Then off I went. Passed by Sri Petaling and went to The STORE
- DK wave sighted, just restocked(the last restock was in october 2008 and it was the funny car wave) 1 box of hw, 1 DK and 1 Fastback sighted at the racks. Left the DK and took the fastback price here is still RM5.90 each. The fastback had a chipped tampo. Error??? hehe :) . No mb in this place.



THERE WERE NO NEW CARDS OR NEW HW OR MB WAVES SIGHTED IN THESE PLACES. PERHAPS IN A LATER TIME THERE WILL BE. SO BE PATIENT.

More Thunt, More fastback

Just to do some reporting on my latest haul. I can't think of anything else to blog for the moment except what I managed to haul on my way back to my hometown. On my way to my hometown I have to pass by a small town called Tampin and there is a new Giant store there, so we decided to stop for a while and I just went to the toy section and found some really nice cars hanging on the racks. Managed to get 2 batmobiles, some mustangs, a ferrari and a Austin Healey.

At first I did not realize that the Austin Healey was actually a 2008 Hotwheels production car. I was a bit surprised since it did not come in any wave that has hit Malaysia. And then I remebered the Promo Packs and that the Austin Healey was in those packs.

Somehow they must have taken out the cars from the promo packs and started selling it as normal single cards again.


On the way back this Morning, we stopped at a Tesco and two 7-11 and I managed to score some more, most notably the matchbox mustang concept which I thought was cool and blows the thunt mustang gt hotwheels out of the water with its detail. Anyway thats all for now.

VW Fastback 08 First Edition

Today I am going to do a more complete review on the VW fastback 08 first edition. This car comes along in the Drift King Thunt wave and comes in quite limited number which is one in every box just like the thunt. Perhaps because its a VW and the casting, superb color and tampo on the car and its limited supply, it's more sought after than the dk itself. Some have said that it is the "thunt" in this wave and not the dk. Yes the dk which is a flat black probably pales in comparison to this vw pedigree.



One of the first thing that you will notice about this car is it's sheer weight. It is fully metal on the outside and is quite heavy.


After taking it out, you will find that the car features an opening back much like the vw dragbus or the vw kahrman ghia of 2007 which was also very limited in number. The back opens and reveals the engine and the drivers seat. The roll cage which is made out of plastic can be detached and proped as a support for the body of the car. However the color could have been better as the lightblue rollcage gives it the "cheap" look. I've got a mind to color it black but probably in the future..haha.

The body of the car also can be detached from the base just like the 08 orange beetlecup to reveal a rather off road dune buggy of sorts, hmmm could be a custom of its own......





All in all, a very good casting and I can undestand why many people are looking for it, Its not just hype, its a good quality car for RM6 or so. Worth your money so if you see the dk wave on the rack, don't just be looking for the green striped card but look out also for the number 39 yellow striped first edition.

VW FASTBACK

Well, its official. The Drift King wave has trully arrived but for how long nobody knows. Its reported to be popping up here and there all over KL and Selangor. Today I was able to score the VW fastback. As you know in two post back, I managed to score the same wave with a regular thunt DK but surprisingly no VW fastback. I couldn't understand why and probably never will. However today I saw the hotwheels box on the floor. So I asked for permission to have a look and that is how I scored the vw fastback today. Like the Thunt, there was only one VW fastback in the box which explains why it is in such demand. Besides anything vw in hotwheels is scoffed up in a feeding frenzy....haha

The first thing that strikes me most about this casting is its weight. Like the Kharman Ghia before it its probably one of the heaviest mainline car to be produced since its fully metal and it has a back that opens(like the Kharmann Ghia) to reveal its rear engine.

Well this is one car you definitely want to find a few and keep. Its definitely a great car to have and my crappy camera does not do it justice.
